Background
Resuscitation in the paediatric age group is always challenging. The acute care clinician has incorporated technology to aid in diagnosing, monitoring and even treating the sick child. Point of care Ultrasound (POCUS) has evolved as the most significant technological evolution that has aided in resuscitation. Today we use POCUS as a visual stethoscope in clinical practice. It’s now claimed that POCUS is one of the most significant technological advancements aiding the acute care clinician over the past several decades.
We the International Council of Critical Emergency Sonography have been torch bearers of the global mission to spread POCUS education to the acute care clinician and add this much-needed skill set to his armamentarium. The challenges posed by acute illnesses in the paediatric age group could be better tackled with POCUS and we have been advocates for the use of POCUS in paediatric resuscitation for close to a decade. The Paediatric Emergency Sonography course has been a regular feature of the national emergency paediatric board review course and emergency paediatric injuries and illnesses congress. It has also been well received internationally and is a great asset for any clinician involved with treating children of any age group Residents and faculties involved in paediatric emergency care or critical care mainly from Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Paediatric Surgery & Critical Care background.
